Wedding styling in Adelaide, from a table runner to a whole room

Styling is the category with the widest gap between what couples think they are buying and what is actually in the quote. This page is mostly about telling those apart.

What it covers

Wedding styling covers 3 quite different services that share a name. Dry hire is where you collect or receive items and place them yourself. Styled hire is where the supplier delivers and sets up. Full styling is where someone designs the look, sources everything, installs it and takes it away.

The price difference between those 3 is large, and so is the labour difference. A quote that looks cheap is usually dry hire and a quote that looks expensive usually includes 2 people for 4 hours at each end of the day.

There is also a compliance overlap that nobody warns couples about. Real candles are the most common styling element and they are naked flame, which is banned by name at Carrick Hill, the Adelaide Town Hall and the State Library of South Australia among others. LED candles are permitted almost everywhere. That single substitution is the difference between a compliant room and a phone call from the venue coordinator.

The Adelaide market

Adelaide is well served for both dry hire and full styling, and there is a strong local trade in the specific items couples want most: giant light-up letters, neon signage, hedge and flower walls, arbours, red carpet and candle setups. Verified Adelaide rates for several of those sit on our pricing page.

The stylists doing proposal setups in Adelaide are frequently the same businesses doing wedding styling, which is why our proposal pages and this one point at the same kind of supplier.

What it costs

Every figure below was read from the source named beside it. Nothing here is an estimate, and where a category could not be verified we say so rather than print a number.

24 published package prices across 5 South Australian stylists sit behind this table. The important thing it shows is that a styling fee is not a styling budget: every one of these businesses passes florist, furniture and hire invoices through separately, so the number above buys design and labour, not the things in the room. Hours on site is the real price lever, which is why Easy As Events sells 0, 3 and 5 on-site hours as 3 distinct tiers.

What tends to surprise couples

  • The fee excludes the actual items. Wedding SA puts standalone furniture and decor hire for an 80 to 100 guest wedding at roughly $2,100 to $3,500 on top of the stylist.
  • Management fees on pass-through items are common. BubbleWrap Events adds 10% on hire and styling it sources for you.
  • Guest count escalators are real: BubbleWrap adds $3 per person over 60, and The Beautiful Life warns of extra charges over 100.
  • GST treatment is inconsistent across the market. The Beautiful Life quotes plus GST, most others do not say, so 2 quotes may not be comparable as written.
  • 2 venues means 2 setups and a travel charge between them.
  • Anything over 30kg or needing a ladder can attract extra staffing, which matters for hanging installations.

What to ask before you book

These are the questions that change the answer. Anyone good will have a ready reply to all of them, and the ones who hesitate are telling you something.

  • Is this dry hire, delivered and set up, or full styling, and exactly which items in the quote fall into which?
  • Who packs down, at what time, and is that included or a separate charge?
  • Are the candles in the mock-up real flame or LED, and have you checked our venue's policy on naked flame?
  • What is the damage bond, what counts as damage, and when is it returned?
  • Have you styled our venue before, and do you know its access window and its bump-out deadline?
  • If a hire item is damaged at the wedding before ours, what is the replacement plan?
  • Does the quote include a site visit or a mock-up, or is the first time we see it on the day?

Wedding Sparks Adelaide is a specialist enquiry service, not a hire company. We take your date, your venue and the moments you want, check what the venue actually permits, and hand the job to a verified South Australian operator. We do not hold a pyrotechnician licence and we do not claim to.

Effects it pairs with

Cold spark is the reason this site exists, and every service here is chosen because it either makes an effect land better or depends on one being timed properly.

FAQ

Questions couples actually ask

Answers stated as at 10 August 2026. If yours is not here, put it in the enquiry form and it gets a straight answer, not a brochure.

  • Do you style weddings yourselves?

No. We are an enquiry and matching service. We match you with South Australian stylists and hire businesses, and we flag where a styling choice collides with your venue's written policy.

  • Can we use real candles?

It depends entirely on the venue, and a surprising number of South Australian venues say no. Carrick Hill, the Adelaide Town Hall and the State Library all ban naked flame in writing. Our venue directory records what each one actually publishes.

  • Is dry hire cheaper?

On paper, always. In practice you are absorbing delivery, setup, pack-down and the risk of a damage bond, usually on the morning of your own wedding.

  • Will styling get in the way of the effects?

Occasionally, and it is worth resolving on the floor plan rather than on the night. Cold spark needs clear floor and headroom, and a low floral installation directly above a machine position is the usual conflict.
